10/29-11/2 -Day of the Dead

The Day of the Dead (El Día de los Muertos in Spanish) is a Mexican and Mexican-American celebration of dead ancestors or friends which occurs on November 1 and November 2, coinciding with the similar Roman Catholic celebrations of All Saints Day and All Souls Day.  Show your respects by bringing in a small "alter" to display at the Senior Center.  We will collect alters October 29-October 31.  All will be on display on November 1.  Those that are on display will need to be picked up on November 2.  For additional information please call 303-661-1492 or stop by the center.

10/31 - Halloween Dance Party - 3:00-4:30pm  Wednesday
Join us in costume for tricks, treats and dancing.

Latin Dance - 1:15-2:00pm Mondays
Drop-in fee $4, 20 punch card for $64 or SilverSneakers membership.

10/3-10/24 - Tai Chi (Intermediate) 11:00am-12:00pm Wednesday
This course offers deep bending and more complex movements, as well as more of the Simplified 37 Posture Forms as taught by Cheng Maching.
Registration required.

10/4-10/25 - Tai Chi (Beginner) Thursday 11:00am-12:00pm Thursday
Tai Chi is easy and gentle and develops body awareness that can help seniors to keep their balance.    Registration required.


10/11 - Mindbender Mansion - Denver Museum of Nature and Science 9:30am-3:00pm  Thursday

Mindbender Mansion is a series of thematic "rooms" filled with dozens of puzzle stations and challenges that get your whole body and brain working.  Limited space available register now.

10/29 - Mardi Gras Casino - Blackhawk 8:30am-4:30pm Monday
The casino package includes $5 free play on card, free drinks while gambling and $5 food voucher.  You must use your player card to earn points and receive package.  Fee includes transportation.  Food is on your own.  Pick up is at Erie Community Center, 450 Powers St.  Registration deadline is October 12.

10/9 - Monthly Hearing Clinic 1:00-2:30pm 2nd Tuesday
The staff of Family Hearing provide free audiology services such as ears checked and cleaned, hearing aids inspected and cleaned and hearing screenings.  Sign up through Lafayette Senior Services 303-661-1492.

10/9 - Dementia Conversations:  Driving, Doctor Visits, Legal and Financial Planning 3:00-4:30pm  Tuesday
How to have honest and caring conversations about common, hot topic concerns when someone begins to show signs of dementia.  FREE.

10/16 - Massage 12:30pm-4:30pm Tuesday
Therapeutic massage promotes good health and well-being.  One-hour table massage appointments are offered by Charlene Schick, CMT.  Please arrive 10 minutes prior to appointment.  Registration required through Senior Services 303-661-1492.  $60/hour

10/16 - Low Vision Peer Support Group 1:00-2:00pm Tuesday
Monthly peer support group helps you connect with peers to create a community, maintain hope and process frustration and sadness during the transition to living with visual impairments.  Sponsored by the Center for People with Disabilities.

10/19 - Medicare Part D Open Enrollment Clinics 9:00am-12:00pm Friday
Get one-on-one help to review your policy, get signed up for a new part D supplement or discuss your options with a Boulder County Area Agency on Aging Medicare Counselor during Medicare Open Enrollment.  Sessions are 45 minutes and fill quickly.  Couples should schedule separate time slots.

10/23 - Dementia Support Group for Adult Children  6:00-7:30pm  Tuesday
This free drop-in program is for adult children who have parents with Alzheimer's or another form of dementia.  Location:  Lafayette Public Library, 775 W. Baseline Rd. Downstairs Conference room

10/24 - Memory Café 3:00-4:30pm  Wednesday
This free drop-in program is for people with younger onset Alzheimer's disease and their care partners.  Memory Café offers peer and facilitator support, resources and education.  For more information, contact the Alzheimer's Association 800-272-3900.
