Wellness Classes


Latin Dance - 1:15-2:15pm Mondays
This Latin Inspired fitness class is a great, unique and effective approach to exercise.  Drop-in fee $4, 20 punch card for $64 or SilverSneakers membership.

5/3-5/24 - Tai Chi 11:00am-12:00pm Thursdays
Tai Chi is exercise that is easy and gentle and develops body awareness that can help seniors to keep their balance.

5/10-6/28 - Matter of Balance 1:00-3:00 pm Thursdays
A Matter of Balance is an eight-week program designed to help you reduce your fear of falling and increase your physical activity.  No charge to Boulder County residents 60 and over and their caregivers.  Please call 303-441-3599 tp register

5/18 - The Industrial City Under Your Feet:  Mapping Lafayette's long Abandoned Coal Mine Passages  11:30am-12:30pm
Coal production from Lafayette's mines peaked about 1909.  Simpson Mine, at the time the largest coal mine in Northern Colorado, had underground passageways  that connected to the Cannon, Strathmore, Mitchell, Excelsior and Gladstone mines.  Join us as we discover the history of the long gone tunnels under your feet, and the formerly thriving industrial city of sorts under Old Town Lafayette.  Registration deadline:  May 11.

Do you like to play Pinochle, Bridge or Shanghai Rummy?  Our card groups are currently looking for players.  Interested?  Just stop by and join the game.

Wednesday Transportation Loop
We pick up and drop off at Affinity, Josephine Commons, Villa West, Boulder Ridge and Arbordale Acres and go to Vitamin Cottage, Sprouts, King Soopers, Walmart, the Library or the Bob L. Burger Recreation Center.

5/18 - Swan House Tea Loveland 10:30am-3:00pm
Join us for  High Tea.  Swan House was built in 1908 and has been restored and renovated into a Tea Room and a boutique.  Trip cost includes transportation and tea.  Registration deadline:  May 4.

 
5/21 - Mardi Gras Casino Blackhawk  8:30am-4:30pm
The casino package includes $5 free play on card, free drinks while gambling and $5 food voucher.  You must use your player card to earn points and receive package.  Meals are on your own.   Registration deadline:  May 4.  Pick up is at the Erie Community Center, 450 Powers St.

5/2 - Dementia Friendly Orientation for Community Members  5:15-6:00pm
Lafayette is a pilot site for creating Dementia Friendly Communities in Boulder County.  In a dementia friendly community, people living with dementia and their care partners have autonomy, a high quality of life, and are engaged with that community which treats each person with respect and supports individuals to live meaningful lives to their full potential.  Do you know someone who is getting older and may be experiencing dementia?  Join us to learn about the basic signs of dementia and how to successfully and compassionately communicate with individuals who may be experiencing cognitive decline.  We will also discuss how Lafayette businesses and organizations can become dementia friendly and maintain and grow an aging customer base.

5/17 - 13th Annual Caregiver's Symposium Sponsored by Boulder County Area Agency on Aging  8:30am-4:00pm
Educational event for family caregivers of older adults features a large resource fair of local service providers, informative handouts, and multiple workshops on topics such as dementia care, caregiver self-care, legal/financial issues and more.  To register, please call 303-678-6116.

5/22 - Senior Wellness Fair 2:00-6:00pm
Check out the many resources and services available to you in and around Lafayette.  Visit with vendors from home care, long-term care, hospice, advanced funeral planning and more.  Various health services will also be available, including blood pressure screenings.  Contact Lafayette Senior Services for more information at 303-661-1492.

5/14 - AARP Smart Driver Course 12:00-4:30pm
Improve your skills, increase safety and become eligible for a premium discount on your insurance.  Open to all individuals 50+.  Certification valid for 3 years.  Registration deadline:  May 11.

5/18 - Medicare Basics Class 1:30-2:30pm
Before you become eligible for Medicare, make sure you learn more about the benefits, costs and options.  An expert in Medicare will go over the basics of the program and be able to answer questions for newly eligible Medicare recipients.  Registration deadline:  May 17.

5/22 - Dementia Caregiver Support Group 6:00-7:30pm
The Dementia Caregiver Support Group is a safe place to receive support for the difficult journey of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease.  This group meets at the Lafayette Public Library on the 4th Tuesday of the month.  No registration required.  For more information, please contact the Alzheimer's Association at 800-272-3900.
