Call for Poets - Michael Adams Poetry Prize~ entry due Nov. 3

The call for entries to the 2017 Michael Adams Poetry Prize is now open.  This year’s competition will be open to all English and Spanish poets as well and English and Spanish Spoken Word poets.  All entries are due November 3, 2017.  Up to $1600 in prize money will be awarded at the public Michael Adams Poetry Prize & Reading on November 18. 
MAPP is open to all Colorado adult and high school poets. The theme of this year’s competition is, “Social Justice” and/ or “The Natural World.”  Named in honor of the late poet Michael Adams, the Michael Adams Poetry Prize (MAPP) aims to cultivate and inspire poetry while celebrating Lafayette’s commitment to community arts. 
The finalist poets, in both written word categories are invited to read at a poetry reading on November 18, 7:00 – 9:00 pm,  at The Collective, 201 N. Public Road. The first 6 spoken word poets to enter, in each language, will read their poems at the event on November 18. Winners will be announced at the end of the reading.   The event is free and open to the public.
All entries must be received by November 3; and adult entries require $10.00 entry fee per poem; high school student entries are free.  Entry forms and additional info may be found at

Art on the Street 2018

Lafayette Public Art Committee is looking for entries in the 2018 Art on the Street.  20 sculptures will be chosen. Artists will receive a $750 honorarium for each selected sculpture, with additional $100 for artists who live more than 250 miles away.  Sculpture must be available for one year, with installation the first week of April 2018. All sculptures are for sale in this year long, outdoor art display. Artworks on are eligible for the $1000 Jean Mellblom  Award or the $250 People’s Choice Award. Apply at

EBCA at the Collective

East Boulder County Artists at The Collective

The East Boulder County Artists Winter Exhibit will be at The Collective from November 2 through January 3 . East Boulder County Artists (EBCA) is excited and pleased to announce this partnership, which will feature a showing of the work of our community of visual artists and a workshop for local artists.
This exhibit is free and open to the public. The EBCA exhibit will feature a variety of medium, including painting, photography, ceramics, and glass.  Mary Covell- pottery, Betsy Cole- oil painting, Joseph Sikora –wood, Penny Peterson- mixed media, David Beumee – pottery, Roni LaVine- photography, Katy Diver – clay, Suzanne Frazier – painting, Melinda Driscoll – acrylic painting, Nina Freda – fused glass, Laurie Adams- mosaics, Mark Rossier – pottery, Charlotte Zink – painting and metal, Jean Riordan- painting, Molly Hargarten – painting, Robin Bryant – pottery, Sandy Backlund-photography, Ginny Cash – pottery, and Marti Nash - oil painter.
All are invited to the Artists’ Reception on November 3, 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, where the public is invited to meet the artists, view the beautiful and wide ranging exhibit, and enjoy light refreshments.  Wine will be available for purchase.
East Boulder County Artists is a diverse group of artists from Lafayette, Louisville, Longmont, Erie, and Superior. Since 2000, EBCA has presented annual open studio tours, and conducted educational outreach programs to enhance public awareness of art in eastern Boulder County. East Boulder County Artists is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1999. EBCA Members bring their talents to the community throughout the year. Our growing group of sculptors, painters, printmakers, fiber artists, glass artists, potters, book binders, wood carvers, and metal smiths offer individual and group lessons at community centers and artist's studios.

Workshop: Marketing for Artists

Artist and marketing specialist, Suzanne Frazier, will present her talk, “Marketing Your Artwork without Being There,” at The Collective on Thursday, November 9 at 6 PM - 7 PM.   The concept of promoting what one does and telling people in three words or less on one's business card is the first step towards marketing. These simple marketing concepts can be applied to any business and expanded in social media. Participants will receive materials and participate in an exercise to help them decide on their three special words to explain what they love to do. Suzanne Frazier combines her experience as a teaching artist since 1989 with her work experience in Promotions and Marketing since 1972, to craft a message and coach other artists towards success.  The workshop is free and open to the public.

The Arts HUB is also looking for individuals interested in working with this 501(c)3 nonprofit organization through targeted efforts on committees, i.e. Marketing/Fundraising, Senior/Adult Arts Programming, Outdoor Arts Development. Beginner Bluegrass Jam

Nov. 7 (5 week session) Cost: $85 Open to all ages — Bring your guitars, mandolins, banjos, basses, dobros and vocal chords, and learn to jam with other bluegrass musicians! Instructor Dan Harris will introduce you to the ins and outs of playing bluegrass in a group! In this five-week course, you’ll learn to kick off, sing, accompany and take “breaks” on classic bluegrass songs and fiddle tunes.  Most types of instruments are welcome; students should have a working knowledge of their instrument and how to play basic chords.
