See & Respond: Call for Artists & Poets

Call for Artists and Poets!  The Lafayette Cultural Resources announces a Call for Artists and Poets for the 2017 See & Respond Art Show.  The poetry entry deadline is September 15, 2017; all artwork is due September 28.
Poets and 2-D artists of all kinds and all ages (youth and adult) are invited to See & Respond to the 2017 Lafayette Art on the Street collection by writing poems or creating 2-D works of art in any medium that are inspired by any of the 2017 Art on the Street sculptures. Cash prizes will be awarded in three categories, and three age groups for this juried show: 2-D Art, Photography and Poetry.  More details are available at www.cityoflafayette.com/seeandrespond
Teachers who wish to submit batch entries must contact susanb@cityoflafayette.com for special instructions before submitting student work. You must follow the guidelines for batch entry of student work to avoid disqualification.  Students may also submit work independently, following the listed guidelines.
There are two youth age groups, 6 – 12 and 13 – 18 years old.  Students, as well as adults, are eligible to win cash prizes for winning artworks and poetry.
All are invited to attend the Art on the Street reception on October 20, where winners will be announced.

Volunteer Committee Art Contest

City of Lafayette Volunteer Committee is sponsoring a poster contest with the winner to receive $150 prize at the September Art Night Out. We would like to invite artists of all ages and types to submit artwork that will be digitally reproduced to be a poster that the Committee will distribute to all of the City’s volunteers.  
The theme is a quote from the plaque at our City Park; “Time Is the most valuable thing that man could give”

Register and submit up to 5 pieces September 5-7, 9 AM – 4 PM 
Exhibit is open Monday – Friday September 11 – 15 and September 18-22
Accepted Media – Original Works Only
• Oils & Acrylics: Original oil and/or acrylic paintings
• Water Media: Original watercolors, gouache, and acrylics
• Photography: Original photographs, not computer art
• Drawing/Printmaking: Original works using charcoal, pencil, pen, and ink or related materials and combinations.

Save the Date: Art on the Street Reception

Lafayette Cultural Resources is proud to present the 5th annual  See & Respond! Art Show and Art on the Street Meet the Artists Reception at the Lafayette Public Library October 20, 6:00 – 9:00 pm.  Art on the Street sculptors will be honored at the event.  The event will also be the awards for the See & Respond!  Art Show, where local artists and poets were invited to respond to the 2017 Art on the Street sculptures.  Prizes will be awarded in multiple categories and the winner of the Art on the Street, Jean Mellblom People’s Choice Award will be announced.
The event is free and open to the public. There will live music, savory appetizers and sweet desserts from Lafayette restaurants, a poetry reading and awards ceremony.  Beer and wine are available for purchase.
The event is hosted by Lafayette Cultural Resources, Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission, the Public Art Committee and ARTS!Lafayette, and honors artists of all ages and genre.  Poets and 2-D artists of all kinds were invited to See & Respond to the 2017 Lafayette Colorado Art on the Street by writing poems or creating 2-D works of art in any medium that are inspired by any of the 2017 sculpture collection.
