An evening of amazing entertainment you won’t forget!  Master storyteller, Odds Bodkin, brings his amazing skills as a storyteller and musician to Angevine Middle School for a storytelling performance for families – adults and kids 7 and up (middle and high school students will be glad they came, too!).  Stories from around the world that reveal connections between land and people will be featured.  A professional storyteller from New Hampshire, Odds Bodkin has received rave reviews from schools, theaters, businesses, the White House and many other venues all over the United States and internationally.  Tickets are $10.   A special rate of $38 for families of 4-6 members is also available. Art on the Street Call for Artists

Art on the Street 2017 Sculpture artists wanted! Lafayette Cultural Resources is calling for sculpture submissions for the 2017 Art on the Street Sculpture Walk. Artists' submissions are due December 31, 2016.  This program provides artists nationwide the opportunity to showcase their work in this creative, diverse and eclectic community.
Art on the Street, in its ninth year, is the largest sculpture on loan program in Boulder County. Selected sculptures will be on display outdoors for one year. Twenty works will be selected; artists will each receive a $650 stipend for a one installation, with additional $100 for artists who live more than 250 miles away.  All sculptures are for sale in this outdoor art display. Artworks on display are eligible for the $1000 Jean Mellblom People's Choice Award or the $250 People’s Choice Award. All sculptures are for sale in this outdoor art display. The Arts HUB's gala, Art Rising!

Second Annual Fundraiser—Friday, Nov 4th, 6:30-10pm
The nonprofit, The Art Underground, will hold its 2nd Annual Art Rising! gala to support its Lafayette "Arts HUB". Come to explore and support the beautiful new 12,000 sq. foot facility that holds dance and art studios, an art gallery, sculpture garden and theater.  The event will have food, drinks, live entertainment from students and instructors along with a Live and Silent Auction.  This event, in addition to raising vital funds for the Arts HUB and scholarship programs, will celebrate the organization’s community of donors, volunteers and patrons, as well as showcase the vast array of programs offered including dance, theater, film and visual arts classes.

Community Book Read

“What if our community reads the same book about an immigration story, and then gets together to talk about it?” Would reading a book together affect our opinions? This October and November Lafayette Public Library offers an opportunity to read The Book of Unknown Americans by Cristina Henriquez, as a community. Books and book club kits are available now.  Join the Lafayette Community Book Read, read the book in October and November, then discuss the book at the Lafayette All-Community Book Group, Wednesday December 7, 6 -7:30 pm. We invite the entire community as well as local book groups to join a giant book discussion at the Library. Enjoy the discussion, and the opportunity to discover and meet existing local book groups. 
The Lafayette Community Book Read is part of Different Voices: Be Part of the Conversation, a forum for those in our community who are not frequently heard in mainstream media and culture. “Different Voices” offers opportunities for engaging the public in conversations of importance to our community, through books, events, and conversation round-tables
International Games Day
Saturday, November 19, 1-4 pm; Join us from 1-4 on Saturday, November 19 as we celebrate International Games Day! As part of a worldwide event, we will join more than 2,000 other libraries around the world playing some of our favorite board and tabletop games. Board games will be provided and attendees are invited to bring their own games to play and share. Families are encouraged to attend and light snacks will be provided.

Auditions for Nuncrackers

Peanut Butter Players is holding auditions for NUNCRACKERS, the Nunsense holiday show, on October 29 and 30 from 1-3 p.m. at the Harlequin Center for the Performing Arts, 1376 Miners Drive, Suite 106, Lafayette.  Auditions can continue through the first week of November if interested actors (of all ages from 4-84) are unable to make it to the earlier auditions.

The Annual Holiday Tea has become Lafayette’s way to welcome the holiday season. Join us on Sunday, December 11, 2 - 4 pm, at Lafayette Public Library, 775 W. Baseline Rd.
Enjoy this treasured Lafayette tradition, an afternoon of tea and cookies, featuring “Tales of Winter Wonder” told by Storysmith Susan Marie Frontczak.  Come along for a warm family time! Tickets: $10/adults, $7/seniors and kids; tickets go on sale in early November at the library, and they usually sell out. Presented by Friends of the Lafayette Library Foundation.

Lafayette Historical Society films

The Lafayette Historical Society will be showing its two newly-made documentaries on November  10; 7- 8 pm; at East Simpson Coffee Company, the Hive. 
The first one is Free to Forge My Destiny: Stories of Lafayette. The history of Lafayette, from its earliest pioneer days to the present, is told through the voices of notable Lafayette citizens. Running time: 15 minutes.
The second movie is titled In the Carbide Light: Tools of the Northern Coalfields. Coal mining expert Jim Lastoka describes (and colorfully demonstrates) the tools miners relied on to put food on the table... and keep them alive. Running time: 18 minutes. 

Art after disaster

Art After Disaster Workshop

What will happen if a disaster strikes your studio?  Personal challenges, such as illness, can threaten your valued career. Are there ways to be prepared and resources to help you recover? On November 3rd, CERF+ will be coming to Boulder and joining with local artists, government agencies and non-profits to bring you answers to those questions. We will be holding two FREE, informative 1.5 hour sessions, one at noon and the other at 5pm. Register online.  The presentations are brought to you by Open Studios, Boulder County Arts Alliance and the Boulder Arts & Crafts Gallery.

FARM School in Lafayette

The FARM (Folk Art Revival Music) School is your Old Town Lafayette go to for lessons in acoustic stringed instruments and jamming. With a faculty that includes Annie Savage (violin, viola, cello, harp and voice) Kevin Slick (mandolin, banjo) and Rick Pruitt (kids and adult guitar), we offer private and group music instruction and lessons. 
Our next jamming class begins on October 30 and will meet on Sundays from 4:30-7:00 through December 4 with a culminating jam at the Post Brewing Company. This is a comprehensive introduction to jamming, soloing and understanding basic chords, SIGN UP here:
