Art on the Street: See & Respond!

Lafayette Cultural Resources is proud to present the 4th annual  See & Respond! Art Show and Art on the Street Meet the Artists Reception at the Lafayette Public Library October 14, 6:00 – 9:00 pm.  Art on the Street sculptors will be honored at the event.  The event will also be the opening of the See & Respond!  Art Show, where local artists and poets were invited to respond to the 2016 Art on the Street sculptures.  Prizes will be awarded in multiple categories including the winner of the Art on the Street, Jean Mellblom People’s Choice Award.
Tickets cost $10 for adults; $5 for Teens (13 - 20), and free for children 12 and under. Enjoy live music, savory appetizers and sweet desserts from Lafayette restaurants, a poetry reading and awards ceremony.  Adult tickets include one beer or wine.  Additional beer and wine are available for purchase. You may RSVP to arts@cityoflafayette.com and tickets will be  available at the door.
The event is hosted by Lafayette Cultural Resources, Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission, the Public Art Committee and ARTS!Lafayette, and honors artists of all ages and genre.

AutumnLEAF is a FREE event scheduled for October 7-8, 2016 that will feature live experimental and audiovisual music performances from an international cast of players including SueC Live - Cinema (Portland); Onyx Ashanti - expanded electronic performance (Berlin/Detroit); Dan Wilcox - wild west hyjinx (Denver); and Normal One - audiovisual electronica (Boulder). Performances will take place on Friday, October 7, and Talks and Films on Sat, Oct. 8. LEAF is presented by the Center for Musical Arts & Colorado Music Festival and funded, in part, with a grant from ARTS!Lafayette.

Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema

Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema is a niche film festival specializing in the intersection of dance and cinema, and incorporating live performance.  "Kids+Dance+Film," a free family-friendly film screening, will dazzle viewers. Ages 5 and up are encouraged to see what happens when kids and their imaginations are put at the middle of the intersection of dance and film.  This, the second in a series of three events supported by an Arts in Community Grant from the Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission, will feature 10 short films, and, as always, RedVines (the classic movie snack). website: www.sanssoucifest.org

Shrek with Peanut Butter Players

October 1, 8, 15, 22 and a special school holiday show on October 10, at the Harlequin Center for the Performing Arts, 1376 Miners Drive, Suite 106, Lafayette.  Showtime is 11 a.m. followed by noon lunch (hot dog, salad or pbj) and admission of $15/person includes lunch.  This production is family-friendly and full of the hilarity and misadventures of an ogre, a quest to save a princess, and a wealth of fairy tale characters.  Group rates are available. Window painting

Lafayette's 6th Annual Window Painting Contest!

Children in kindergarten to 10th grade can paint a Halloween, Día de los Muertos, and/or fall picture on an assigned exterior window space of a participating merchant in Lafayette.  Local artists will judge the paintings.  Winners in each grade category receive awards.  Children provide their own acrylic paint and supplies and paint from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, October 8 and Sunday, October 9, 2016 (rain/snow date is October 18/19).   Registration fee: $4 resident/$6 non-residents).  Register at www.cityoflafayette.com/FallFestival from September 6 to October 3.  Space is limited!   The Awards Ceremony will take place at the Fall Festival on Sunday, October 23 at Lafayette’s Bob L. Presentation on Immigration and how it Influenced Music and Culture in the Caribbean; sponsored in part by a grant from the Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission.
The Barrio E' group will present Puerto Rican music, culture, dance, songs and history through a performance of music and dance. Band members will present background history for the songs, dances and instruments, as well as information on immigration from Puerto Rico to the US. Join them for an exuberant presentation and performance!
Barrio E' is associated with the Barrio E' Cultural Center in Longmont.

The nonprofit, The Art Underground, will hold its 2nd Annual Art Rising! gala to support its Lafayette "Arts HUB". Come to explore and support the beautiful new 12,000 square foot facility that holds dance and art studios, an art gallery, sculpture garden and theater.  The event will have food, drinks, live entertainment from students and instructors along with a Live and Silent Auction.  This event, in addition to raising vital funds for the Arts HUB and scholarship programs, will celebrate the organization’s community of donors, volunteers and patrons, as well as showcase the vast array of programs offered including dance, theater, film and visual arts classes.

Door to Imagination - A storytelling workshop by master storyteller, Odds Bodkin

According to master storyteller, Odds Bodkin, “we’re all storytellers.”   This workshop examines imagination as a basic skill for anyone who works with children.   Developed over years of graduate level teaching and decades of real world experience, Odds Bodkin’s training is a step by step process that incorporates music and storytelling to train teens and adults to imagine freely and tell stories. Lafayette Senior Center ( 103 S. Iowa) has Senior Art on display from October 3 through October 11. The public is invited to stop by during regular business hours (8:30-5:00) to vote for their favorite piece in multiple categories; we will be open until 7 PM on October 6 and 10.  There will be a Meet the Artist and Awards Reception on Thursday October 13 from 6 PM – 7 PM.

Poets and 2-D artists of all kinds were invited to See & Respond to the 2016 Lafayette Colorado Art on the Street by writing poems or creating 2-D works of art in any medium that are inspired by any of the 2016 sculpture collection.
