Lafayette announces summer cancellations due to Coronavirus

City of Lafayette Summer Cancellations

Due to ongoing concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Lafayette has announced the cancellation of all monthly Art Night Out events, the 4th of July Celebration at Waneka Lake, and  Kids Public Safety Day.  Additionally, the Great Outdoors Waterpark will not open for the 2020 season.

“The uncertainty surrounding this epidemic and our abundance of caution has compelled us to make these difficult decisions,” said Lafayette City Administrator Fritz Sprague.  “Large special events such as these also require a significant amount of dedicated staff time from our Police and Fire Departments which is not reasonable to offer under current COVID circumstances.  Our priority continues to be the health and safety of our community and minimizing the potential spread of COVID-19.”

“Celebrate July 4th has been a family event since 2011,” said Pat Vero, Lafayette Chamber Director of Marketing and Events, “The Chamber has decided that for the safety of our community, this year’s July 4th celebration and activities will be canceled.  We have taken into consideration everyone involved and did not make this decision lightly.”
