So you want to be a City Councilor?

There are five seats on the Lafayette City Council up for election this November. If you’re planning on running, or just thinking about it, this event is for you. City Administrator Fritz Sprague, City Clerk Susan Koster, and Department Directors will host a public gathering to discuss the organization and function of Lafayette’s Council/Manager form of government and what it’s like to serve as an elected official.

Presenters will cover the structure of Lafayette’s government, the purpose of the City Charter, services provided by City departments, responsibilities of the City Council, and how to get started with your run for Council. There will be a question and answer period for any resident or potential candidate.

This event will be televised live on Comcast Channel 8 and online at  A recorded version of the event will be also be available online and on Channel 8 beginning July 18.

August 6:      Nomination Petition Packets available in City Clerk’s Office

August 26:    Deadline to submit Nomination Petitions 

August 29:    Candidate Q & A (the nuts and bolts of conducting a campaign)
