See and Respond Call for entry to respond to the Art on the Street sculpture

Call for Artists and Poets!  The Lafayette Cultural Resources announces a Call for Artists and Poets for the 2019 See & Respond Art Show.  Poets and 2-D artists of all kinds and all ages are invited to See & Respond to the 2019 Lafayette Art on the Street sculpture collection by writing poems or creating 2-D works of art in any medium that are inspired by any of the 2019 Art on the Street sculptures. Cash prizes will be awarded in three categories, and three age groups for this juried show: 2-D Art, Photography and Poetry.  More details are available at  All art, photo, and poetry entries are due September 18, 2019; 5 PM 

The See & Respond Art Show and Art on the Street Meet the Artists Reception, featuring the Art on the Street Sculptures and the works they inspired, will be held Saturday, October 19, 2019; 6:00—9:00 p.m, at the Lafayette Public Library.  The Jean Mellblom Award and the People’s Choice Award will be announced for Art on the Street Sculpture and all cash prizes for See & Respond will be awarded at the reception.

Sixteen Art on the Street sculptures were installed along Public Road in April. Artists and Poets wishing to enter See & Respond may visit the sculptures in person or view them on the City of Lafayette website, The Art on the Street sculpture walk provides the community with a full access interactive art experience year round. Artists are asked to respond to current Art on the Street Sculptures. This is the sixth year of the See & Respond Art Show.

More information on the See & Respond Art Show is available at This program is not limited to local artists.  Lafayette has vibrant art community, and a strong citywide arts program.  Don’t miss the chance to be part of the art that Lafayette has to offer.  Local artists, as well as artists from other regions are encouraged to apply for these opportunities to display work in a unique and eclectic art environment where community members are appreciative and encouraging and tourists and visitors come for a special opportunity to share in Lafayette’s art scene.
