Indigenous Peoples' Day and Land Acknowledgement

Saturday, October 12, 2019

In honor of the 2019 Indigenous Peoples' Day, a parcel of land at the Lafayette Great Park will be acknowledged for the public to use to observe, reflect, learn, and show honor and respect for the many peoples who have lived, worked, or passed through the City’s lands throughout history.

In 2016, the Lafayette City Council resolved that the 12th day of October of each year shall be recognized as Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and that each year the City will support events that celebrate and honor Indigenous Peoples, their traditions, culture, and our shared history.

On October 12, a parcel of land at the Lafayette Great Park will be acknowledged for the public to use to observe, reflect, learn, and show honor and respect for the many peoples who have lived, worked, or passed through the City’s lands throughout history.  This 2.5 acre parcel along the Great Park Trail (map coming soon), amid a grove of Cottonwood trees, has been improved to include a trail spur, rock seating, and gathering circle.

Please join us for an Indigenous Peoples’ Land Acknowledgement
