Arbor Day Celebration 2019
Saturday, April 20, 2019
City of Lafayette Open Space staff is partnering with Wildlands Restoration Volunteers (WRV); Thorne Nature Experience; CU Boulder faculty and students; Nature Kids/Jovenes de la Naturaleza; and Empowerment Center of East County in hosting this year's environmental stewardship project and Arbor Day Celebration at Greenlee Wildlife Preserve. Activities include: introduction to ecological restoration; environmental science careers; fruit tree raffle; reading of the Arbor Day Proclamation; planting native plants; construction of a pollinator garden; and the removal of invasive plant species that are detrimental to the local ecology. Members of Lafayette's Open Space Advisory Committee will be on hand to assist in this celebration of environmental volunteer service deemed Lafayette in Action, part of a community-wide action plan organized by the Empowerment Center of East County. Come out and celebrate Arbor Day and take part in this volunteer effort!
Volunteers and enthusiasts will have the opportunity to excavate and plant a small pollinator garden. Additionally, native trees and shrubs will be planted in the area. Volunteers will also have a chance to cut back willows from the Waneka Lake path and remove invasive Privet trees that have inhabited the area over time.
This community event will be a great opportunity to give back to nature while joining other residents in the 26th anniversary of celebrating Arbor Day in the City of Lafayette.
An official Arbor Day Proclamation will be read aloud by a Lafayette City Official. People of all ages are encouraged to attend. For more information, please contact Rob.Burdine@cityoflafayette.com City of Lafayette Open Space Superintendent.
