Plein Air for Curious Beginners - Explore Painting Outside

Sunday, July 15, 2018

Plein Air painting workshop for curious beginners - Explore Painting Outside. This workshop will be held at Coal Creek Trail.

Explore Painting Outside

  • July 15, 2018
  • 8:30 am to 11:30am
  • Coal Creek Public Road Trailhead
  • Adult (HS & Adult)
  • Most Materials Included

Painting outside, also known as Plein Air Painting, is the inspiration for “Capturing Domenico Farm.”  Join the artists and participate in capturing your own inspiring scene along the Coal Creek Trail.  Artists will demonstrate with small groups on getting started - finding a good composition, creating a values sketch, and color selection will be demonstrated.  One piece of sanded paper, foam core surfaces, and a small selection of soft pastels will be provided.  Feel free to bring additional materials, including pastels, if you have them. Participants are encouraged to create their own paintings by following the lead of the artists.

Please come prepared for 3 hours of sun exposure and outside activity, including walking along the trail. Sunscreen, a hat, insect repellent, and plenty of water are the basics. Bring a camping stool or fold-up outdoor chair if you are not comfortable sitting on the ground. Your sketchbook and a camera (a smart phone camera is perfect) are helpful tools.  The groups will be walking away from parking, so put everything into a bag or backpack for ease of carrying.  We want to be courteous to the many visitors by not taking up all of the spaces in the lot for 3 hours, so please park on Public Road, north of the Trail head. If walking is an issue for you, then feel free to park in the lot.

There will also be a workshop on Saturday, July 14; 1-4 pm. This workshop will be held at The Collective Community Arts Center; 201 N. Public Road.  Participants may do one or both, Sign up required.

Call 303-661-1261 or stop by The Collective (201 N. Public Road) to sign up.
