Lafayette Kids Ready to Read

Library - Child Care Center Partnership

Creating a language-rich environment through stories and songs helps children get ready to read.

Lafayette Kids Ready to Read (LKRTR), an early-literacy initiative, builds partnerships with local child care centers to bring volunteer-led story times and library materials to young children in our community.

LKRT provides preschoolers with stories, songs, rhymes, and activities that support early literacy. LKRT supports caregivers with library materials for classroom use.

Check out the Lafayette Kids brochure.

Research Based Practices

Early literacy research in skills development demonstrates that certain practices optimize language and literacy development in preschool children.

Early literacy skills are developed through five practices, major elements of a library story time program. Lafayette Kids Ready to Read is modeled after Every Child Ready to Read , a program of the National Public Library Association.
