Volunteer with Teen Team
If you are in grades 6-12, we have lots of ways you can help out, mentor others, promote the love of books, and earn community service credit! Not sure what you want to do? Read on, then sign up. We will help match you up with a great opportunity.
Grades 9-12: 2 hours, once per week
Find out what it's like to work in a library! Track down customer requests, and lend a hand shelving, straightening and ordering items in our collection. You should be good at alphabetizing and be comfortable using the Dewey Decimal System to sign up for this role.
Grades 11-12: 1 or 2 hours, once per week for whole school year
We are looking for strong students who are proficient in lots of subjects. Share your knowledge on subjects like math, language arts, science, and social studies to help other students complete homework assignments. This rewarding experience is a commitment for the whole BVSD school year.
Makerspace - new!
Grades 6-12 depending on experience: 3 hours, once per week
Our mini-makerspace opens in Summer 2018. If you have any background in working with 3D printing, helping others with coding or tech projects, or other maker activities, please review the full Makerspace Mentor volunteer description. If you are only interested in the Makerspace positions, use this form to apply. If you are interested in several opportunities, including Makerspace, use the Teen Team form.
Grades 7-12: once per week (six-week sessions)
With other teens, you will meet and get matched up with younger kids to read books, play games, make a difference and have fun! You will commit to a specific meeting day/time during one or more 6-week sessions (typically in Fall and winter/Spring). Check session dates and additional program info on the Reading Buddies home page; then apply to Teen Team to get started!
Grades 6-12: 2 hours, once or twice per week (during June 1-July 31)
Give out prizes, and help all age groups sign up and log reading minutes at the Summer Reading table. You may also help with programs and events, shelving, and other tasks. This is a great way for teens who love reading to share their enthusiasm with kids, teens, and adults!
Teen Collection Connection (TCC)
Grades 6-12: last Wednesday of each month during school year, 4-5 pm
Do you love to read and discuss favorite books, movies, and music? Join TCC and meet monthly with other teens to contribute short book reviews that will be featured on the library’s blog and on the shelves next to the books, and to help select items to add to the teen collection.
Love libraries and want to volunteer, but not sure what to do? You might be able to help with programs, story times, crafts, computer lab support, displays or other tasks. Apply for Teen Team and we will find a volunteer experience that is right for you!
