The Lafayette Police Department can accept your unwanted prescription medications and assure their proper disposal year-round. No more waiting for designated drug take back events.
Medications accepted include most prescription medications, patches, ointments, vitamins, over-the-counter medications, pet medications, unused inhalers and unused injection cartridges/syringes if they are safely protected. Items which cannot be accepted are used or unprotected syringes, thermometers, oxygen containers, used inhalers, aerosol cans, liquids containing hydrogen peroxide, chemotherapy or radioactive substances and illicit drugs.
Protect others and the environment by bringing unwanted prescription drugs to the Lafayette Police Department Records Division during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, excluding holidays, for safe destruction. There is no charge for this service.
The Lafayette Police Department also participates in the national prescription take back events each year. These events are usually scheduled each spring and fall, providing local locations to drive up and drop off. A national take back day provides a unified opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction. When an event is scheduled, we will provide a link for more information here!
