Annually, the Lafayette Volunteer Committee hosts a poster contest. In recognition of all volunteers in the City of Lafayette, the Lafayette Volunteer Committee sponsors the poster contest with the winner to receiving a cash prize awarded at the September Art Night Out in Festival Plaza, Lafayette 311 S. Public Road. Traditionally, the City of Lafayette honored it’s volunteer’s by nominating a volunteer of the year and having a celebration during National Volunteer week.
The Volunteer Committee is a cross-departmental group that was formed to promote volunteerism within the City. The current members are: Sarah Owsiany, Public Works, Kris Kron Recreation Supervisor at the Bob L Burger Recreation Center, Rob Burdine Open Space Superintendent and Penny Ford, Human Resources. Yes, if a volunteer will have one-on-one, unsupervised contact when serving others they will be thoroughly background checked. Volunteers not having direct, unsupervised contact with individuals may not be required to have a background investigation. For more information, email the the Volunteer Committee.
