Chief Garrett has been involved in emergency services for over three decades. He has been a career member of the department since 2007. Chief Garrett is a Paramedic, Firefighter II, and has Hazardous Materials Operations. He began his career in 1985 on the University of Southern Colorado EMS Response Team, Middelkamp Ambulance in Pueblo, and Arkansas Valley Ambulance in Canon City. In 1988 Chief Garrett was hired by A1 Ambulance in Longmont where he worked as a Field Instructor and Field Supervisor. When the A1 companies were acquired by American Medical Response in 1993, Chief Garrett served as the Assistant Director of Operations for AMR Boulder County. He made a lateral transition to AMR’s Denver Metro Operations and worked as the Assistant Director of Operations until 1997.
His focus shifted in 1997 and he began working as a Flight Paramedic for Flight for Life out of Denver and remained an active part-time Paramedic for AMR Boulder County. In 1999, Chief Garrett began working as the Assistant Chief for Boulder County Paramedics until 2007 when he became a Lieutenant with the Lafayette Fire Department. Currently Chief Garrett manages the department’s emergency medical services division and functions as a fire Battalion Chief.
