    An Evening of Art & Poetry with artist Jerry Rael & Dr. Ramon Del Castillo will be held at The Collective on Friday, August 25 at 6:30pm. The public is invited to meet the artist and the poet. Poet Dr. Ramon Del Castillo, a professor from Metro State University, will read from his latest book Quetzales are not Extinct. Both Mr. Rael and Dr. Del Castillo will be part of a question and answer period after the reading. All are invited to enjoy the art, great conversation, and light appetizers throughout the evening. Wine will be available for purchase. This event is free and open to the public.

    The Citizens' Police Academy is a unique 12 week mini-police academy for citizens 15 and older. The academy meets once a week to explain and demonstrate many of the department's policies, divisions and functions. Areas covered include DUI investigation, crime scene investigation, felony car stops, traffic enforcement, tactics, SWAT, officer safety and more! If you have ever wondered why the police do what they do to keep you safe, apply to attend the 2017 academy! Applications and background checks are required. Applications available online and at the police department. Seating is limited, so apply today!

  2. Fall Pee Wee Soccer Registration Deadline

    Pee Wee soccer is open to boys and girls ages 4-5 years who are looking for a non-competitive activity (age determined as of October 30). The program will stress the instruction of soccer fundamentals with the emphasis on FUN and participation. The season is based on a six-week and three-game schedule. Instructors: Pancho Hansen & Karen Logan.

    Having trouble keeping the 3-year-old on the sideline? Here is your chance to turn them loose and use some of that abundant energy. The Lafayette Recreation Department will be offering a 3-year-old soccer program (age determined as of October 30) for the little ones that just can’t wait. This league will be instructed by Pancho Hansen and Karen Logan, teaching the very basics of the sport of soccer. A guardian must be present at all times.
