WRAC champions pilot program to recycle batteries and art supplies

The Lafayette Waste Reduction Advisory Committee (WRAC), in cooperation with three local businesses located along East Simpson Street, is providing a free, drop-off recycling program for alkaline batteries and used art supplies.

Accepted art supplies include items such as paint brushes, paint tubes/cans/bottles, watercolors, crayons, charcoals, canvases, sponges, notebooks, easels, markers, tape, and paint remover bottles.  Alkaline batteries are the most common type of non-rechargeable batteries used by consumers, and are typically recognized by their size AA, AAA, C, D, and 9V.

Businesses accepting these recyclable items are East Simpson Coffee Company (414 E. Simpson), HiFi Jones Studio & Art Gallery (209 E. Simpson), and Friends ‘N Fun Children’s Center (105 E. Simpson).

In an effort to fulfill its mission of promoting waste reduction and zero waste awareness, WRAC is providing funding to make this effort possible and help divert reusable materials from landfills. While there is no cost to drop off items, monetary donations are appreciated in order to continue purchasing recycling kits.

Additional information on accepted items and the recycling process is available through the recycling vendor, TerraCycle
