  1. Art on the Street Meet the Artists and See & Respond Art Reception

    The Art on the Street: See & Respond! Reception, featuring the AOTS sculptures and the works they inspired, will be held in the Lafayette Public Library October 20, 6:00 – 9:00 pm. Meet the artists who created the 2016 sculptures, as well as local artists and poets who have entered their responses into the See & Respond! competition. Prizes will be awarded in multiple categories and the winner of the Art on the Street, Jean Mellblom People’s Choice Award will be announced.

  2. Sugar Skull Decorating Workshop

    October 21, 2017, 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM @ The Collective - Community Arts Center

    In this 90 minute workshop, you will receive a short lecture on the customs of Dia de los Muertos and the symbolism of the sugar skull. You will also have the opportunity to decorate a sugar skull with colorful royal icing, feathers, foil, sequins and more. Everyone will leave with a completed skull they have decorated. Instructor: Lupe Cruz and Laura Pereya 25 students per workshop per day. Sign up over the phone 303-661-1261 or in person at 201 N. Public Road. Most workshops for ages 2nd grade and up; younger sibling may attend with parent present.

  3. Day of the Dead Poetry Workshop

    October 23, 2017, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM @ The Collective - Community Arts Center

    In this 60 minute workshop you receive a brief lesson about el Día de los Muertos and then will explore a few styles of poetry, including simple free verse to describe/remember a lost friend, family member or pet and traditional satirical “Calavera” poems for older writers. There will be time to write a few poems, share with others and get feedback from poets and teachers. Instructor: Angela Aponte, David Smith, and ZBassSpeaks

  5. Catrina Dolls Workshop

    October 28, 2017, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM @ The Collective - Community Arts Center

    In this 60 minute workshop you will receive a short lecture on the tradition of La Catrina (“skeleton woman”), a cultural symbol of death common throughout Mexican art, especially around el Dia de los muertos, first represented by José Guadalupe Posada and later by Diego Rivera among others. You will also the opportunity to create and decorate your own Catrina doll to take home. Instructor: Angela Aponte 25 students per workshop per day.
