Any person who owns property in Lafayette may apply to the city forester in order to designate a tree on that property as a landmark tree. In order for the city forester to designate a tree as a landmark tree, the tree must meet one of the following criteria:
The city forester must determine that the tree is rare or is associated with an historical event.
The tree must be at least 30 years old.
The tree must have a circumference of 10 feet or more when measured three feet above its base.
