Intercambio Uniting Communities
is a nonprofit that is dedicated to improving immigrant lives through English education, and uniting communities across cultures.
Working from the Lafayette library and across Boulder County, Intercambio trains local volunteers to teach English to adult immigrants. They focus on community building and teaching relevant life skills for success in the US.
Intercambio celebrates 15 years of having served over 10,000 adult learners across the county. Intercambio students come from all over the world, but now call Lafayette home, and they are parents, business owners, neighbors, and community members. Volunteer teachers play an integral role in helping Intercambio students achieve their goals, and together form lasting, meaningful relationships, creating a stronger community in Lafayette.
Speak English? Teach someone who doesn’t!
Language barriers lead to loneliness, isolation, and cultural exclusion. Intercambio Uniting Communities helps overcome those feelings with low-cost English classes for adults that foster a sense of belonging.
Become a volunteer teacher! Contrary to popular belief:
1. You do not need to speak another language,
2. You do not need previous teaching experience.
Intercambio trains community members to be highly successful English teachers. The training helps you understand the keys to teaching – whether you are working one-on-one or with a group. The curriculum is easy to use and is specifically designed for adult learners to be taught by non-experienced teachers.
Learn more about the volunteer commitment at one of our upcoming information sessions and be the spark for hardworking adult immigrants to communicate in English – transforming their lives.
